Remote Pivot exists because the internet is full of remote work content that's either scammy or useless for most people.
On one end, you've got the dropshipping scams. "Make £5,000 per month selling cheap stuff from China." (You won't. You'll lose £500 and get a garage full of unsold inventory.)
On the other end, you've got content aimed at people who already work in tech. "Learn JavaScript in 12 weeks." "Get a coding bootcamp and earn £60k." (Great advice if you want to learn to code. Less useful if you're a teacher, nurse, retail manager, or admin worker and you don't.)
The internet skips over the people in the middle.
Who Remote Pivot is for
Remote Pivot is for people in traditional industries who want to work from home or on flexible terms without completely reinventing themselves.
That's:
- Teachers who want to move into instructional design
- Nurses who want clinical coding or health insurance case management
- Retail managers who want to move into e-commerce or customer success
- Admin workers who want to become virtual assistants
- Anyone who wants remote work but doesn't want to learn to code or drop £10k on a bootcamp
We know that most people in these industries have valuable skills. We know that remote opportunities exist. We know that you can make the move without a dramatic career pivot.
What's missing is honest, practical information about how to actually do it.
What we do
Remote Pivot:
Links to real opportunities. We point you to real employers, real job boards, and real training. Not affiliate spam dressed up as advice.
Provides practical guides. How do you frame a teaching CV for an L&D role? What's a realistic salary for a clinical coder? What skills do you actually need?
Discloses affiliate commissions. Yes, we take affiliate commissions when you sign up to FlexJobs or take certain training courses. We disclose this everywhere. We only recommend things we believe work.
Hates hustle culture. We're not going to tell you that you should "grind 80 hours a week" or "wake up at 4am" or "side hustle until you burn out." Remote work is supposed to be better than that. If it's not, it's not worth doing.
How we make money
We take affiliate commissions from:
- FlexJobs: If you sign up through our link, they pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way.
- Training courses: We occasionally recommend Udemy or other course platforms and get a small commission if you sign up.
- Job boards and tools: If we recommend a paid tool or job board and you sign up, we might get a commission.
We're transparent about this because:
- It's legal and ethical.
- You have a right to know.
- It doesn't increase your cost.
- It helps us keep the site running and add more guides.
We don't recommend things purely because they pay commission. We recommend things because they actually work.
Why we started this
I've worked in corporate environments and watched colleagues struggle. A teacher wanted to work from home but didn't know where to start. A nurse wanted flexibility but thought she had to leave healthcare entirely. An admin worker got told repeatedly to "learn to code" even though he was actually good at what he did.
All of them had valuable skills. All of them could have moved to remote work. None of them had a roadmap.
Remote Pivot is that roadmap.
What makes us different
Honest about money: We show you actual salary ranges, not the "up to £50k" nonsense. We tell you if a transition might mean earning less initially.
Focused on transitions: We're not teaching you a new skill from scratch. We're showing you how to apply the skills you already have in a remote setting.
UK-focused: US advice doesn't always work in the UK. Salary, tax, job boards, qualifications — it's all different. We're specific about UK opportunities.
No scams: We won't recommend dropshipping, SMMA, MLM, or anything else you see plastered across Instagram. We think you're smarter than that.
Acknowledges real constraints: You have a mortgage. You have bills. You can't spend 6 months retraining for free. We understand that.
What we're not
We're not a job board. We don't post jobs here (though we point you to boards that do).
We're not a training provider. We don't sell courses (though we point you to good ones and get a small commission if you sign up).
We're not a recruitment agency. We don't place people in jobs.
We're writers and researchers who work in and around remote work. We know what works and what doesn't. We're sharing that knowledge.
The bottom line
If you're in a traditional industry and you want to work remotely, it's possible. It's genuinely possible. You don't have to learn to code. You don't have to become a digital nomad. You don't have to embrace hustle culture.
You just need to understand your options and make the move intentionally.
That's what Remote Pivot is for.
